Dog Training Success Depends on Tactics With Breed

At some time, every person who owns a canine thinks about dog training, either for obedience training or for behavior, to make their relationship with the animal more meaningful. By teaching the animal better behavior and maybe even how to perform certain tricks, dog training can make the animal and the owner more comfortable with each other.

While each breed responds to different methods, there are certain aspects of dog training that is common to most breeds. Many dogs have certain traits bred into them over years of specific breeding, such as some pit bulls, which are bred for fighting. They can be trained to be more docile, but dog training for this and other breeds must start as early as possible.

One method of potty training should begin as soon as the animal is brought into your house. It can be as simple as leaving the animal in its cage, even indoors, and when it shows signs of needing to go to the bathroom, it is taken to a specific location outdoors to do it business. If the animal is fed in the same cage in which it sleeps, it will not want to go to the bathroom there and will let you know it needs to go outside. Failure to meet the dog’s need will result in failing at this part of dog training.

Consistency Is Key To Dog Training

Regardless of the breed of dog being trained, consistency is the key to successful dog training. By speaking in the same voice every time you give a command and letting the dog know they have met your expectations, they will usually begin repeating the behavior whenever they hear the same command. For example, if you firmly say the word “no” and accompany it with a light swat with a newspaper when the animal is misbehaving, one or two times is all it should take to understand that when you say no, the animal needs stop the behavior.

Some people have no desire to swat their animal and opt to use a professional for dog training, however with some breeds the owner will need to take some role in the training in order for the dog to recognize their voice commands. Owners choosing to undertake dog training on their own should understand it may take a few days to eliminate the behaviors they want to change and they will need to be there every day. Otherwise, the animal may change the way they act only in the presence of the owner.

Can you train a Siberian Husky to be a search and rescue dog?

My husky has a great sense of smell, I noticed that when she was a puppy, She could track and find my ferret everytime he scaped from the cage, I am talking about 10 acres of forrest and tall grass. She even found the ferret on a dark basement inside a coal furnace of an abandoned house half a mile from home once. Now that she is 1.5 years old …Can she be trained to find lost people?
I always keep her on a leash, when she led me to the old house’s basement, I didn’t allow her to get in contact with the ferret, she was pulling the leash like crazy, instead of approaching the furnace, I called my brother on his cell for him to come and get the ferret.
The ferret just looked at us from the furnace’s door and remained inside it.

Search and rescue, much like all other types of detection work, depend on the dog’s play/hunt drive. If the dog loves to play and search for people, then yes. Test that by hiding somewhere and have a friend hold the dog out of sight. Don’t make it too difficult for the dog to find you at first, but don’t make it too easy either. If and when she does show great pleasure and enthusiasm and reward her with her favorite toy or treat. That is how search and rescue dogs are trained. This is a very rough idea of what it will take to do it. Try it, see if it works. Good luck.

What is the best family, clean, home trained, dog to get?

I have a two year old son who loves animal so he will chase the dog around the most.
I am interested in a Beagle, are they easily trained, house broken, and do they bark a lot.

I agree that Golden retrievers and beagles are great dogs. They are friendly and beagles do not shed a lot. They are large enough to handle a bouncing 2 year old. I will warn you though that you have to be careful of where you get a dog. I would get a puppy, they are playful like your little one. However, puppy’s like to nibble, you would have to quickly teach them that it is wrong so that your little one doesn’t get scratched with some teeth. The reason I say get a puppy is because then you are its owners and the way you raise it will determine its temperament. You cant really tell with older dogs, as they were raised by different people. Some dogs can be very vicious, even ones that should be nice due to their breed. Dogs I would not suggest due to their reputation, Chiwawas, Dalmatians, cocker spaniels, German Shepard’s, and collies. Chiwawas are little and easily spooked. Dalmatians tend to be aggressive, same as German Shepard’s, and collies, but cocker spaniels are not child friendly. We had one who was an angle until my youngest sister was born and began to walk. The dog got jealous and mean.
Currently we have a beagle and a red bone. The beagle is very fun and playful, she is terrified of thunderstorms and cuddles with the kids. The red bone is extremely playful, but she knows when to stop. They are the best dogs we have ever had. Good luck.
