Great Dane Puppy Training: Getting Accustomed In The Car
Although some pups are easily thrilled with car rides, there are a few who still need great dane puppy training before they can truly enjoy the so-called road trip. Getting your pup comfortable with car ride is really important. Even if you don’t plan to take him on long drives of some kind, there will be occasions wherein you will need to let him ride the car to go somewhere such as the vet’s clinic or the groomer’s center. Barking from your house all the way to the vet’s clinic can be stressful to your dog as it is to you. It is therefore essential that you train your puppy to get used to car rides before the need to do so arise.
Let your puppy explore the surrounding of the car. Whenever he comes near or gets inside, reward him with praise and treat. You must also reward him if he sits or lays down when commanded. As soon as your young pup gets into the vehicle freely, give a lot of praise and something truly rewarding.
Move to next step and that’s to start the engine. If he stays comfortable, drive to a short distance and stopping from time to time to praise and give him treats. You can also let him out of the car and play as long as he has his collar and leash on and has completed necessary vaccines. After 10 to 20 minutes of playing, you may opt to walk back home in order to avoid him from associating the car with the end of playtime.
Gradually increase the distance of your destination every time you go out. During your dog training sessions, make sure that your own and your dog’s safety is on top of the list. There are safety devices like harness and crate you can utilize to be sure that your dog is safe should any sort of accident crop up. You also have to remember not to let your dog stick his head of the window neither leave him alone in the car.
